GLT Accompaniment: Dominican Republic

Monday June 1, 2026

On March 28 to 17 April 2026, members of the MSC General Council (Abzalón Alvarado, Simon Lumpini, Bram Tulusan) accompanied the MSC Province of the Dominican Republic on a pastoral visit

This visit provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen communion, listen to the experiences of the members, and reaffirm the spirit of mission and religious life in the various MSC communities.

The visit began in Santo Domingo from 28 to 30 March. On Palm Sunday, 30 March, the members of the General Council took part in liturgical celebrations in various parish communities, experiencing personally the life of the faithful and the ministry of MSC members on the ground.

The visit continued from 30 March to 2 April, during which they visited several MSC works in the Santiago region, including the La Altagracia community, the Vocation Centre—which also functions as a novitiate—and the ‘Monumento de la Vida’, an MSC service project. This visit provided an opportunity to observe at close quarters the dynamics of formation, vocation promotion, and the various pastoral initiatives undertaken by the Province.

On 2 April, after attending the Chrism Mass, the members of the General Council continued their journey to San José de las Matas. There they took part in the Easter Triduum celebrations at Las Placetas until Easter Sunday, 5 April. Meanwhile, the General Superior presided over the Easter Triduum celebrations at the Parish of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Villa Verde, La Romana. The experience of celebrating the mysteries of Easter together with the faithful was a profound moment for strengthening the bonds between the Missionaries and the communities they serve.

On Monday, 6 April, a Community Easter celebration was held at the Provincial House, attended by the local Community and members of the General Council. Following this, the series of visits continued to various MSC Communities in El Llano, San Juan, Villa Jaragua, Nagua, Sánchez and Samaná. At each location, members of the General Council had the opportunity to engage in dialogue with the members, listen to their challenges and hopes, and offer support for the life and mission of the MSC.

The visit concluded with participation in the MSC Study Week at Monte de Oración from 13–17 April. This meeting, facilitated by the General Superior, provided a meaningful opportunity for shared reflection, a deeper understanding of the MSC identity, and the planning of future ministry initiatives. Through this entire series of activities, the spirit of brotherhood, fellowship and mission was further strengthened, in keeping with the MSC’s mission to bring the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to the world. Thank you to all the MSC confreres of the Dominican Republic Province for their cooperation, which ensured this visit went very well.
