Everywhere: Premiere of the film about Fr Emiliano Tardif, MSC

“Day Eight: The Breath of the Spirit” is the title of the film that tells the true story of Fr Emiliano Tardif, MSC. A Canadian who carried out his missionary work in the Dominican Republic before becoming an iconic figure in the Catholic Church worldwide. Known for his charismatic charisma and miraculous deeds, Tardif would hold mass healing services on the 8th of every month, from which the film takes its title. Today, his legacy lives on as the Holy See moves forward with his beatification process following his declaration as a Servant of God.

The plot, inspired by real events, explores themes of family resilience, hope and redemption. Ultimately, the film conveys a message of faith and hope amidst suffering and hardship. Through an encounter with the living God, each person can find light and strength to face life’s most difficult moments. In this way, it is also possible to overcome one’s own inner closed-offness and open up to others, to love and to healing.

The film’s central narrative revolves around the life of Yira Sandoval, a young and popular ‘influencer’ who is constantly seeking fame on social media. Having drifted away from her faith and facing a strained family situation, her world is turned upside down by her younger sister’s incurable illness. In the midst of her anguish, Yira discovers Fr Emiliano Tardif.

The film was released in Spain, coincidentally, on 8 May, as if it were a call to the mass healing celebrations held by Fr Emiliano Tardif on the 8th of each month.
