GLT Accompaniment: Mozambique

During my recent visit to Pemba, Mozambique, I was once again able to encounter an MSC presence lived out amid great challenges and, at the same time, remarkable hope. In Mecúfi, our community accompanies a parish marked by cyclones and by the many difficulties affecting this region of the country. There, two Missionaries of the Sacred Heart from Brazil, Eduardo Paixão and Roney Lima, share their lives and mission with the people, facing each day the risks, hardship and demands of remaining close to a people who have suffered greatly.

And yet, amid this reality, life can be felt. Fourteen young MSC aspirants are today a tangible sign of hope and of the future of our presence in Mozambique. I was deeply impressed to find a vibrant, committed and profoundly missionary community. Pemba reminds us that hope is not born when difficulties disappear, but precisely when, in the midst of them, there are people willing to remain, to serve and to continue believing that God is still doing something new.
