Today, 13 March 2026, we are pleased to share an important step forward in the cause of the Servant of God Fr Jules Chevalier, our founder. We have received confirmation that the Relator General has granted the imprimi potest after reviewing the clarifications submitted in response to questions raised by the historical consultors regarding the Positio.
The Positio is the principal document in a cause for sainthood. In this case it is a study of about 2,000 pages presenting the life, writings, and virtues of Fr Chevalier. After its submission, the historical consultors of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints examined the documentation and raised several historical questions. Clarifications were prepared and submitted, and after reviewing them the Relator General granted the imprimi potest, allowing the cause to move forward.
The next step will be the examination of the Positio by the theological consultors of the Dicastery. If their judgment is positive, the cause will then be presented to the cardinals and bishops of the Dicastery. Following their vote, the Holy Father may authorize the promulgation of the decree on heroic virtues, at which point the Servant of God would be declared Venerable.
This important step is also the fruit of the long and dedicated work of Fr André Bohas, MSC, who devoted at least seven years to preparing the Positio. The clarifications requested by the historical consultors were prepared with the collaboration of the General Postulator.
We give thanks for this significant step forward in the cause of our founder and continue to entrust this journey to the Lord. Let us continue to pray for the cause of our Founder.
