In 2021, Br. James Miller, MSC, began a Mission outreach program for those in poor countries that need fresh water for drinking and sanitation. Brs. Hung Ngyuen, MSC, Warren Perrotto, MSC, MSC Lay members (LMSC), and lay persons joined Br. Jim to form a team for Water4Life projects.<\/p>\n
Rooted in the Sacred Heart spirituality of Fr. Jules Chevalier, the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart and the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart Sisters, along with lay partners reach out to the most vulnerable members of society, particularly in regions where the MSCs serve in missions. Together, by reading the signs of the times, together we discern the will of God who calls us to new forms of service, locally and globally, so that the Sacred Heart of Jesus be known and loved everywhere. We install water wells and filtration systems in different country\u2019s communities. Likewise, water purification kits are distributed to areas affected by natural disasters. Today, we revived our program in 2005.<\/p>\n
Although our membership within our religious order is getting older, we still want to make a difference in our world that is so much in need. Although we held our last big fundraising event in October of 2022, we have continued to assist a few projects: one in Senegal, Africa for a water well pump and tank; one in Vietnam for a clean water system and a large septic tank system for a school in the Dominican Republic. These were funded from the excess donations that we received back in 2022 plus other donations that we were able to ask for in the intervening years.<\/p>\n
