The Chevalier Family is like a tree whose roots go deep down into the soil of God\u2019s love, giving life and vision to the founder Jules Chevalier, from whom reaches out across the world four fruitful branches; the Laity of the Chevalier Family, the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart, the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, and the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart.<\/span><\/p>\n

Membership of the Chevalier Family includes lay people, men and women professed religious, and priests.  All share the same mission to live and spread the love of the Heart of Christ, according to their own status of life.  <\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"THE DAUGHTERS OF OUR LADY OF THE SACRED HEART<\/b><\/h1>\n

The Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, are an international, Apostolic Religious Institute of Pontifical Right with a specific missionary orientation, sent throughout the world living and spreading the love of God in response to the needs of people, in many different forms of ministry.  They share many mission fields in common with the M.S.C., often collaborating in their ministries, while having courageously opened many ministries in their own right.  Centered on God\u2019s love in the human heart of Jesus, theirs is a Spirituality of the Heart with a special Marian dimension.  The spirituality and mission of the Daughters is shared in common with the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart and expressed in the same motto, \u201cMay the Sacred Heart of Jesus Be Everywhere Loved\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Daughters were founded in Issoudun, France, on 30 August 1874 by Fr Jules Chevalier, M.S.C. who personally guided the congregation in its first years of existence.  In 1882, the first Superior General, Mother Marie Louise Hartzer, FDNSC joined the young congregation and embarked on faithfully passing on to the early sisters the charism and spirituality of the founder.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"THE MISSIONARY SISTER OF THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS<\/b><\/h1>\n

The Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was founded in Hiltrup, Germany, in 1899, by Fr Hubert Linckens, M.S.C. who gave them the spirit of his own congregation. Linckens grew up in the Dutch province of Limburg and in 1875 joined the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart in Issoudun (France). It was never his aim, but European political pressures of his time, resulted in him becoming the founder of the new congregation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Inspired by God’s unconditional and merciful love, revealed in Jesus Christ, the Sisters live out a “Spirituality of the Heart”, a way of looking upon the compassionate Jesus of the Gospel, who loved us with a human heart. Their mission is to make this love known, especially among the suffering, the needy and those whose rights are disregarded.  The M.S.C. Sisters also work in many areas in common with the M.S.C. in Europe, Latin America, North America, Asia and Oceania.  <\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"THE LAITY OF THE CHEVALIER FAMILY<\/b><\/h1>\n

This is a communion of Lay people, men and women, married and single, or all ages and walks of life.  They are animated by the Spirituality of the Heart, which has its roots in the charism of the Founder, Jules Chevalier. Together with the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart, they form what has become called the Chevalier Family.  All of the religious families brought to life through Jules Chevalier share the same spirituality and mission. <\/span><\/p>\n

There is a great richness in the diversity of the Laity of the Chevalier Family, with each religious congregation in the family having lay groups associated with them.  While each of these groups maintain a separate sense of identity, perhaps even a different name, they form a communion as one in the Chevalier Family.<\/span><\/p>\n

These various groups of lay people form an international communion participating in the mission of God\u2019s love.  They are committed to living and spreading the Spirituality of the Heart.   They feel called \u201cTo be God\u2019s Heart in the world\u201d, as lay people, through their personal relationships, professional occupations and social engagements.  They work to make real and visible God\u2019s love and compassion, while particularly paying attention to their sisters and brothers in society, who are poor, excluded and treated unjustly.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Laity of the Chevalier family are found in all parts of the world alongside the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, and Missionary Sisters of the Sacred heart. Organizationally this communion is led by an International Council, with its own General Secretary, Deputy, and Council, elected in an International Assembly held every six years. This International Council works together in communion with groups in each country through their contact persons.<\/span><\/p>\n
